Photoshoot Evaluation for CD Covers
Type of photograph’s
Side on shot of face
I made this shot as it gives a very close-up and personal view of the person, which is good for album covers that have a deeper meaning behind them, making the background less important compared to having a photograph that highlights the emotion in the person.
Frontal Face Shot
Similarly to my side shot, I had a very close up shot of the front of my models face, this gave a different effect as it allowed me to see his facial features more so than the side shot allowed, as his mouth and eyes were more visible which meant I could get him to show a specific emotion and have it captured by the frontal shot.
Far Shot
This shot meant that I could get a much less personal view of his face, however I was able to get a great pose of my model with his arms wide open which has a lot of aggressive meanings, which was perfect for one of my CD covers.
Front Left & Front Right
The Front Left/Right shots were done at a distance in between the up close and far away shots, allowing me to have the best of both, giving a good idea of the emotions shown on the face as well as having a stance that showed some form of body language.
Location
Photography studio
As with all of my photo’s, I took them in a photography studio with a white background, this allowed me to easily cut the images from the background to use in photoshop for creating some interesting CD Covers
Equipment
Digital Camera, Whitescreen, Mac, Editing Software, Lighting Equipment.
These were the only pieces of equipment I needed, if I were to have used much more expensive and complicated equipment then the cost of the photoshoot would have gone up, however for a near-professional project these pieces of equipment were fine.
Budget
£100
Aside from the cost of the equipment that I used already, there will not be much money to spend, I may need to get the photo’s developed if I were to want them printed on high quality paper but this should not be necessary.
People
Declan White
Declan was the person I used in all of my album covers. I chose him to have a variety of poses and found that he was very easy to use and posed really well for the photoshoot.
Safety considerations
Camera Flash, Tripping Hazards
If the photoshoot were to continue for a long amount of time, the camera lights and flashes could begin to affect Declan’s eyes, which would pose a safety concern for him, for this reason I made sure not to have the photoshoot last for too long, only about 5 minutes. There were also a lot of wires from various lighting equipment in the room which could have been tripped over.
Legal issues
Copyright
Since I will be using images of both a person and files I have found on the internet, I have to ensure that Declan is fine with what I am doing and also that the images I have taken from the web are not copyrighted for student use.
Ethical issues
Racism/Religion/Gender issues
The content of my work needs to make sure that no one is offended by the CD Covers I have produced, otherwise it could make sales of the product hard or that it may just not be allowed to sell at all.
Development Method / Paper for Printing
Digital Camera/Photoshop
The way I produced my covers is by taking the files from the SD card within the digital camera in order to take the photographs into photoshop.
If I were to have used a roll of film in my camera then I would have to do a development process that I will cover in a later document.
Editing Techniques
Photoshop/Filters/Cropping/Colour Adjustments/Radial Blurs
I used a variety of different techniques for my CD covers, ranging from text editing to applying different filters and colour adjustments. One of the covers I am the most happy with is where I applied a radial blur to create sunshaft type effects which enhanced the original image significantly and produced a cover that looked very close to being a professional level.
